Introduction
Any existing network can be enhanced by adding the Ascom Freeset DCT1900+ system which utilizes an analog or T-1 CAS connection to provide fully integrated wireless communication. Seamless call handover and automatic roaming features ensure reliability for mobile users. This communication solution is the next generation Freeset system consisting of the radio exchange, base stations and portable handsets. These components are durable, modular and expandable, creating the most flexible and feature-rich mobility on-site communication solution available today.

The radio exchange
The hub of the Ascom Freeset DCT1900+ system and the interface between a PBX and the base stations is the radio exchange. All functions, such as powering, control and facilities are contained in this expandable, modular cabinet. Most PBX types are currently supported by the analog interface. The T-1 CAS interface is a dual density card capable of handling groups of 48 Freeset users when connected to two T-1 CAS interfaces from the PBX. Signal transport and power to the base stations is provided through unshielded cable pairs.

Base station 330
Base stations
The small Ascom Freeset DCT1900+ base stations provide coverage and capacity with two internal antennas and improved performance through diversity selection. Each base station contributes eight simultaneous speech channels and can be used in sequence to form the total coverage area. The typical configuration covers between 70,000 and 3,000,000 square feet and can support up to 960 base stations. The coverage area also depends on environmental factors.

9d24 wireless DECT handsets
DECT portable handsets
The Ascom Freeset DCT1900+ on-site wireless communication system also supports 3 handsets: OfficeT, OfficeM, 9d24 Protector and 9d24 Medic. The OfficeT provides telephony suitable for basic office users, offers multiple alerts, a 100 user phonebook and a hands-free loudspeaker. The OfficeM offers the features of the OfficeT plus an expanded menu structure, central phonebook access and messaging.

The rugged 9d24 handsets offer advanced telephony and messaging features. These handsets are waterproof, shockproof, dustproof and have large scratch and shatter resistant graphical displays. Enhanced messaging capabilities include two way messaging and alarm data plus automated text messages from building or factory systems.

UNITE Messaging System
In conjunction with the Ascom UNITE messaging platform, the 9d24 MkII portable handset supports two-way messaging, sending user originated data, and sending alarm data. The message is instantly displayed allowing quick and accurate response. All messaging activities are recorded in the Ascom Communication Server providing real-time activity logging for complete audit trail records.

The 9d24 MkII stores the 15 most recently received messages in non-volatile memory with time and date stamps. Ten “Hot Keys” and three “Soft Keys” can be programmed to send data to trigger events within the UNITE system. Also available within the handsets are four alarm features that send alarm data in emergency situations. These are Man Down, No Movement, Pull Cord, and alarm button activation.

Continuous Dynamic Channel Selection (CDCS)
CDCS is the full-time, automatic process used to select the most suitable high quality time and frequency access channel. CDCS optimizes the distribution of available channels per cell. Seamlessly to the user, calls may be handed over from one channel to another within one cell, optimizing the received signal and eliminating the need for radio frequency planning.

Intelligence
When the radio exchange receives an incoming call, it transmits the identification signal of the called portable handset to all base stations in the coverage area. Because each DECT portable handset assigns itself to a base station, the recipient handset will begin ringing.

Call handovers
During an active call or in standby mode, the DECT portable handset continuously seeks and acquires an optimum channel. These undectable handovers give Freeset users the freedom to roam anywhere on-site with the assurance of uninterrupted, high quality communication.

Encryption
The Freeset system offers fully encrypted, authenticated communication and digitalradio transport between the base station and the DECT portable handset, with a new encryption key used for each call.
